Octreotide (systemic)
Question:

I currently have been taking octreotide every 4 wks for the past year (secretory diarrhea). My gall bladder was removed 6 years ago but I have significant pain in my right upper quadrant. Can biliary sludge be produced? I am a nurse, but GI is not my specialty. I have done a literature search. Blame leads towards the drug. But your site came up and thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

Doctor George's reply:

Abdominal pain is a rare side effect with this medication, and it can be due to inflammation of the pancreas. I suggest you inform your doctor regarding this.
